Manchester City suffered a setback in their pursuit of the Premier League title after being held to an entertaining 3–3 draw by Everton on Monday night.
Heading into the encounter at the Hill Dickinson Stadium, Pep Guardiola’s side were six points adrift of league leaders Arsenal and were eager to cut the deficit.
City looked to be in control before halftime when Jeremy Doku produced a moment of brilliance, curling a fine effort into the net to hand the visitors the lead.
However, Everton returned from the break with renewed intensity and turned the game on its head. Thierno Barry struck twice, while Jake O’Neil added another to put the hosts firmly in command.
Refusing to back down, City mounted a late response as Erling Haaland found the equaliser, with Doku grabbing his second of the night to ensure the champions salvaged a point from a pulsating contest.
Despite the comeback, the result dents City’s title ambitions. They now sit five points behind Arsenal, although they have an opportunity to close the gap further when they face Brentford. Meanwhile, Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal will be aiming to maintain their lead when they travel to take on West Ham United.
