Awoniyi Foundation Brings UK Trainers To Kwara for Grassroots Coaches’ Training
The Taiwo Awoniyi Foundation (TAF) has concluded arrangements to bring football trainers from the United Kingdom (UK) to Kwara State for a four-day capacity-building programme aimed at strengthening grassroots football development across the state.
The Secretary of the foundation, Sulaiman Atunrase, in a statement on Thursday, said the training is scheduled to hold from November 7 to 10, 2026, at the George Agbazika Inih Stadium, Ilorin, and will feature both theoretical and practical sessions, with 44 grassroots coaches targeted to benefit from the initiative.
According to Atunrase, invitations have also been extended to the head coaches of Kwara United FC and ABS Ilorin FC, underscoring the Foundation’s commitment to promoting coaching education and knowledge-sharing across different levels of the game.
The initiative reflects the commitment of Super Eagles striker Taiwo Awoniyi, through his foundation, to investing in the people and structures responsible for identifying, nurturing and developing young football talents in Kwara State.
Atunrase said the foundation aims to expose participating coaches to modern coaching methodologies, contemporary football development principles and practical approaches to improving players’ technical abilities, tactical awareness and overall performance.
“The combination of theoretical instruction and on-field practical sessions is expected to provide participants with opportunities to deepen their understanding of the game while acquiring practical skills they can apply in their respective clubs, academies and communities.
“Grassroots coaches remain central to football development, as they often serve as the first point of contact for aspiring footballers.
“Their knowledge, training methods and ability to identify potential can significantly influence the progression of young players towards professional football.
“The programme would have a lasting impact, with the 44 participating coaches expected to pass on their newly acquired knowledge to young talents across Kwara State.” Atunrase said.
