EuroMatch NPFL:Enyimba Fall At Home, Turn Focus To Sporting Lagos Clash
Enyimba FC suffered a narrow 1-0 home defeat to Inter Lagos in Aba on Sunday, after a first-half header from Ezekiel Moses proved decisive against the nine-time NPFL champions.
The Elephants started brightly and nearly took the lead in the 10th minute when Ekebuike James rose to meet Stanley Dimgba’s corner, but goalkeeper Atabi produced a fine save. James went close again from a free-kick delivery, heading just wide.
Against the run of play, the visitors took the lead in the 19th minute when Ezekiel Moses nodded past goalkeeper Ogunga — Inter Lagos’ only shot on target in the first half.
Enyimba responded with sustained pressure. Atabi denied Dimgba a clear equalizer, while Wonah Williams came close before halftime with an effort that drifted inches wide.
Head Coach Emmanuel Deutsch made tactical adjustments in the second half, bringing Idris Abubakar back into midfield and shifting Obichere to right-back. Substitute Ifeanyi Ihemekwele injected energy into the attack, seeing an overhead kick go narrowly wide two minutes after his introduction.
Samuel Okechukwu thought he had leveled matters, but his effort was ruled offside. Ihemekwele was also denied by the offside flag after breaking through, before being kept out by Atabi in another promising move.
Despite late pressure, Inter Lagos held firm to secure all three points.
Enyimba will now turn attention to their next fixture a midweek encounter against Sporting Lagos on Wednesday in Aba as they look to bounce back quickly.
