Nigeria international Ademola Lookman opened his LaLiga scoring account for Atlético Madrid on Saturday, finding the net in the club’s impressive 3-1 away victory over Sevilla.

Lookman made an immediate impact after being deployed in his preferred attacking position, scoring just 26 minutes into the encounter to give Atlético Madrid an important advantage.

The goal came a week after Atlético coach publicly apologised to Lookman for playing him out of position during the opening two league matches and promised to give the Nigerian a role better suited to his strengths.

The coach had explained that Lookman’s greatest qualities are showcased when he is allowed to take defenders on in one-on-one situations and make dangerous runs behind the opposition defence.

Against Sevilla, the Nigerian forward provided a perfect response.

Lookman looked much more comfortable in his natural role and rewarded the faith placed in him by getting on the scoresheet early in the contest.

Spanish midfielder Álex Baena also played a starring role for Atlético, scoring twice to complete the visitors’ 3-1 victory.

For Lookman, the goal represents an encouraging start to his Atlético Madrid scoring journey in LaLiga and could provide the confidence needed to establish himself as a key attacking figure for the Spanish giants.

The Super Eagles forward will now look to build on his impressive performance as Atlético Madrid continue their campaign.
