All Sports Supporters Club Applauds Tinubu, NSC For Move To Reform Nigerian Football

The All Sports Supporters Club has commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the National Sports Commission (NSC) for initiating comprehensive reforms aimed at repositioning Nigerian football.
The supporters’ group described the move as a timely and necessary intervention capable of addressing some of the longstanding structural and administrative challenges affecting the development of football in the country.
President Tinubu, through a statement issued on August 27, 2026, by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, directed that a comprehensive reform of Nigerian football be undertaken following the resignation of Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) President Ibrahim Gusau and members of the federation’s board.
The President stressed the need for Nigeria’s most popular sport to overcome persistent governance and structural challenges and develop institutions capable of matching the country’s enormous football talent, passion and resources.
Reacting to the development, the All Sports Supporters Club said the decision demonstrates the Federal Government’s commitment to restoring confidence in the administration and development of Nigerian football.
According to the club, football remains a major source of national pride and unity, making it imperative to establish a system that promotes transparency, accountability, professionalism and sustainable development at every level.
The group particularly welcomed the directive for the National Sports Commission to play a key role in ensuring continuity in the administration of the sport while working with the NFF Secretariat on the reform process.
The proposed reforms are expected to focus on critical areas including football governance, domestic competitions, youth development, talent pathways and financial accountability.
The All Sports Supporters Club also commended the Federal Government for emphasising the importance of conducting the reform process within the framework of international football regulations.
The Presidency has stated that the transitional arrangements and proposed reforms will be undertaken in consultation with FIFA and CAF, ensuring that Nigeria continues to meet its international obligations while addressing domestic challenges.
The deputy National President of All Sports Supporters Club,Alhaji Musiliu Jimoh Alao, on behalf of the All Sports Supporters Club, expressed optimism that the reform process would provide an opportunity to build a stronger and more effective football administration.
The club also called on football stakeholders, administrators, former players, coaches, supporters, clubs and other relevant bodies to support the process and contribute constructive ideas towards rebuilding Nigerian football.
The supporters’ group believes that with proper implementation, the reforms can strengthen domestic competitions, improve grassroots development, create better pathways for young talents and enhance Nigeria’s competitiveness on the international stage.
The All Sports Supporters Club therefore reaffirmed its support for the Federal Government and the NSC, urging all stakeholders to place the long-term interests of Nigerian football above individual interests.
“This is an opportunity to reset Nigerian football and build a system that future generations will be proud of,” the club stated.
The group further expressed confidence that the ongoing process, if carried out transparently and inclusively, can usher in a new era of stability, accountability and sustainable growth for Nigerian football.
