Nigerian Talent Papa Daniel Joins Slovenian Champions NK Celje
By Sportsgister
‎Nigerian midfielder Papa Daniel has signed a contract with Slovenian top-flight club NK Celje, leaving Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) side Niger Tornadoes behind.
‎
‎ The 23-year-old signed a four-year deal with the Slovenian champions, running until June 2028.
‎
‎Daniel had a breakthrough season in the NPFL last season, scoring four goals and providing three assists in 21 appearances from a defensive midfield role.
‎
‎His impressive performances earned him a first call-up to the Super Eagles, making his debut in May during a 2-1 win over Ghana at the Unity Cup.
‎
‎The transfer to Europe means Daniel will miss the upcoming African Nations Championship (CHAN), which is reserved for home-based players.
‎
‎Despite his absence, Super Eagles B coach Eric Chelle is confident the team will remain competitive, having recorded impressive wins in their warm-up matches.
‎
‎At NK Celje, Daniel becomes the seventh Nigerian to play for the club, joining a list that includes Sunday Chibuike, Sunny Omoregie, Chukwubuikem Ikwuemesi, and Sunday Adetunji.
‎
‎The Slovenian side, league champions in 2020 and 2024, finished fourth last season but are aiming for another title challenge with their strengthened squad.
