The opening round of the 2026 Edo State Premier Football League came to an exciting conclusion on Friday at the Airforce Base Football Ground, Airport Road, Benin City, with four entertaining fixtures producing goals, drama and fiercely contested battles.
After an action-packed opening day on Thursday, the remaining eight clubs took to the pitch to begin their league campaigns, with Dynamo Academica FC producing the standout performance of the day.
Dynamo Academica FC announced themselves as early contenders with an emphatic 5-0 victory over Shooting Arrows FC. Godwin Prince stole the spotlight with a brilliant brace, while Ger Dennis, Adekunle Adewale and Odiete Marvelous also got on the scoresheet in a dominant attacking display that secured all three points.
The second fixture of the day saw Aidia Sports FC and Namo FA battle to a hard-fought goalless draw. Despite creating several opportunities, neither side could find the breakthrough as both teams settled for a point apiece.
Perhaps the most dramatic contest of the day came between Konstanz Dikeh FC and United Sparrow FC, who played out an entertaining 2-2 draw.
The match featured four goals and two red cards, with Kelly of Konstanz Dikeh FC and John Emmanuel of United Sparrow FC both receiving their marching orders. Azubuike and Kelly found the net for Konstanz Dikeh FC, while Jimoh and Johnbosco scored for United Sparrow FC in an evenly fought encounter.
The final game of Matchday One saw Royal Force FC secure a narrow but valuable 1-0 victory over Panthers FC. Robinson Paul scored the decisive goal to hand Royal Force FC a winning start to the new season.
With Matchday One now concluded, teams will use the coming days to regroup and fine-tune their preparations as the competition enters its next phase.
Matchday Two of the 2026 Edo State Premier Football League will continue next week, with clubs looking to build on positive starts, bounce back from opening-day defeats, and strengthen their push for league honours in what is already shaping up to be a highly competitive campaign.
