LaLiga:Real Madrid’s Title Hopes Dent As Getafe Claim Famous Away Win

Real Madrid missed the opportunity to close the gap on La Liga leaders Barcelona after suffering a stunning home defeat to Getafe CF at the Santiago Bernabéu.
A moment of brilliance from Martin Satriano proved decisive, as the Uruguayan forward unleashed a spectacular first-half volley that rocketed into the top corner beyond Thibaut Courtois. The breathtaking strike came just before the interval and ultimately secured a famous victory for the visitors.
The result leaves Madrid four points adrift of Barcelona after 26 matches, while Getafe celebrated one of their most memorable wins of the campaign. It also marked Los Blancos’ second consecutive league defeat — a worrying development in the title race.
Madrid were once again without star forward Kylian Mbappé, who has been sidelined with an external ligament injury in his left knee since late 2025. The absence of Mbappé, coupled with that of England midfielder Jude Bellingham, has clearly impacted the team’s attacking fluidity.
Despite dominating possession, the hosts struggled to break down a resolute Getafe defense marshalled expertly in front of goalkeeper David Soria.
Vinícius Júnior squandered a golden opportunity to open the scoring when he was denied one-on-one by Soria. Moments later, Satriano punished Madrid with his stunning finish.
Manager Álvaro Arbeloa reacted quickly after the break, making three substitutions within the first 10 minutes of the second half, including replacing Trent Alexander-Arnold.
Madrid increased the tempo and looked particularly dangerous from wide areas. Antonio Rüdiger sent a near-post header narrowly wide, while substitute Rodrygo flicked a header across goal that just evaded Dani Carvajal at the far post.
The frustration boiled over in stoppage time when Franco Mastantuono was shown a straight red card for abusive language directed at referee Alejandro Muñiz Ruiz.
Getafe were also reduced to ten men shortly afterward, as Adrián Liso received a second yellow card for time-wasting.
Arbeloa has now suffered four defeats in his 12 matches in charge, navigating a challenging spell marked by key injuries and inconsistent form.
Madrid will look to halt their slide when they face Celta Vigo on Friday at 20:00 GMT, aiming to avoid a third consecutive league loss and keep their title ambitions alive.
