Nigeria’s Senior Men’s Handball team, the Golden Arrows, have failed to secure qualification for the IHF World Handball Championship following a disappointing loss to Angola at the ongoing 27th Africa Men’s Handball Nations Cup in Kigali, Rwanda.

The Golden Arrows saw their campaign come to an end on a sour note after falling 25–20 to Angola in the 5th–6th place classification match played at the BK Arena on Sunday.

Despite a spirited performance, Nigeria struggled to contain the experienced Angolan side, who gradually took control of the encounter and maintained their lead until the final whistle.

The defeat not only marked Nigeria’s final game of the tournament but also dashed their hopes of qualifying for the 2027 IHF World Handball Championship scheduled to take place in Germany.

With the victory, Angola secured Africa’s fifth and final qualification slot for the global showpiece, while Nigeria were left to reflect on missed opportunities after an otherwise competitive outing in Kigali.
