Sunshine Queens FC produced a composed and dominant display on Wednesday, securing a deserved 2–0 victory over Dannaz FC in an Elite Women’s Football League (NWFL) fixture at the Ondo State Sports Complex in Akure.
The home side set the tempo from kickoff, applying early pressure and dictating play with confident passing and purposeful movement. Their persistence paid off in the 11th minute when red-hot forward Precious Edewor expertly converted a penalty to hand the Queens a well-deserved lead.
Sunshine Queens maintained control of proceedings, and just two minutes before the halftime break, Lolade Akintunde stepped up to calmly dispatch a second penalty, doubling the advantage and sending the home crowd into loud celebration.
After the restart, the Queens continued from where they left off—dominant in midfield and inventive in attack. The attacking combination of Owoseni Bukola, Precious Edewor, Alheri Ayuba, and Abina Jumoke consistently troubled the Dannaz FC backline with swift link-up play and creative transitions. Despite creating several clear-cut chances, the hosts were unable to extend their lead as the visitors’ defence tightened.
Defensively, Sunshine Queens were equally impressive. The duo of Daranijo Rofiat and Lucky Victory delivered commanding performances at the heart of the defence, thwarting multiple attempts by Dannaz FC to regain momentum or launch threatening counterattacks.
The performance drew praise from fans and women’s football enthusiasts in Akure, many of whom lauded the team’s improved discipline, tactical maturity, and renewed fighting spirit. Supporters also commended the Ondo State Government and the Ondo State Football Agency (ODSFA), led by Chairman Mr. Divine Ogbonnaya, for the positive transformation the club has experienced under his leadership.
With this home victory, Sunshine Queens continue to gather momentum in the league, approaching upcoming fixtures with heightened confidence, stronger unity, and a growing belief in their ability to challenge for honours this season.
