Nigeria’s home-based national team head coach, Eric Chelle, is expecting a difficult duel as his team faces defending champions Senegal in their Group D opener at the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN) on Tuesday.
The highly anticipated game will take place at the Amaan Stadium in Zanzibar, marking Nigeria’s return to the continental tournament after missing out on the last two editions.
Chelle emphasized the historical significance of the rivalry between the two nations, stating that Senegal and Nigeria have a rich football history.
He assured that both countries will put up a good show for the fans, highlighting the quality of teams and players that both nations have produced.
Nigeria’s last appearance at CHAN was in 2018, where they finished second after a crushing 4-0 defeat to hosts Morocco in the final.
The Super Eagles B also came third at the 2014 edition hosted by South Africa. Both teams are among the favorites to win the title this time around.
Chelle’s squad, which includes a notable contingent from Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) champions Remo Stars, has been preparing for the tournament with a focus on a high-pressing, possession-based style of play.
The team is looking to make a strong impression in the tournament and bring home the title.
