Senegal Face Month-Long Wait As CAS Sets November Deadline for AFCON Title Verdict
Senegal will have to wait until the end of November to learn the outcome of their appeal against the decision to award Morocco the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) title, the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) has confirmed.
The appeal hearing was held behind closed doors at CAS headquarters in Lausanne, Switzerland, on Thursday, October 8, with the arbitration panel now deliberating on the case ahead of its expected ruling.
The dispute centres on the controversial decision to award Morocco the continental crown, a move Senegal is challenging through the international sports arbitration body.
Following the conclusion of the hearing, the panel is considering the arguments presented by both sides before delivering its final verdict, which is expected in the final days of November.
CAS has yet to disclose further details about the deliberations, leaving the outcome uncertain as both nations await a decision that could have significant implications for African football.
The forthcoming ruling will determine the outcome of Senegal’s challenge and provide clarity on the ownership of the 2025 AFCON title.
Until the verdict is announced, the dispute is set to remain a major talking point across the African football community.
