The Oyo State Government, under the leadership of Governor Seyi Makinde, has fulfilled a long-standing promise to reward the players and officials of the Shooting Stars Football Club’s 1998 league-winning team.
The government has approved plots of land for the champions, a gesture that brings joy and satisfaction to the players after 26 years of waiting.
The Shooting Stars 1998 team made history by winning the Nigeria Premier League and the WAFU Cup, bringing glory to Oyo State and Nigeria.
The team’s achievement was recognized by the then-military administrator, Compol Amen Oyakhire, who promised a reward of N1 million and a plot of land to each player and official.
Governor Makinde’s approval of the plots of land demonstrates his government’s commitment to recognizing and rewarding excellence.
The players and officials have expressed gratitude to the Governor for keeping the promise made 26 years ago.

The players are now waiting for the implementation and allocation of their land with the Certificate of Occupancy (C of O) from the Ministry of Lands and Urban Development.
