The All Sports Supporters Club of Nigeria, under the leadership of its National President, Barrister Johnson Dagana, has congratulated Nigeria’s U-17 women’s national team, the Flamingos, on securing qualification for the 2026 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup in Morocco.
The club described the achievement as another proud moment for Nigerian football, praising the players and technical crew for their resilience, determination, and outstanding performances throughout the qualification campaign.
The Flamingos confirmed their place at the global tournament on Saturday after defeating the Amazons of Benin Republic 5-3 in the second leg of their final qualifying fixture in Lomé, Togo. The victory completed an impressive 8-5 aggregate triumph, following a hard-fought 3-2 first-leg win in Ikenne, Ogun State.
Coached by Akeem Busari, the Nigerian girls approached the decisive encounter with confidence and purpose, wasting little time before taking control of the contest.
Mary Dustan opened the scoring in the sixth minute to hand Nigeria an early advantage. Although Benin responded three minutes later to restore parity, the Flamingos quickly regained control through Esther Stephen, who restored Nigeria’s lead in the 15th minute.
Queen Joseph then extended the advantage five minutes later, giving the Flamingos a comfortable 3-1 lead within the opening 20 minutes.
The Beninese side mounted a spirited comeback during the second half, but the Nigerian girls remained composed under pressure. Queen Joseph completed her brace in the 76th minute to help seal a thrilling 5-3 victory, ensuring Nigeria booked another appearance at the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup.
Reacting to the qualification, Barrister Johnson Dagana applauded the team’s fighting spirit and urged the players to remain focused ahead of the tournament in Morocco.
He also commended the Nigeria Football Federation, the coaching crew, and all stakeholders for their continued commitment to the development of women’s football, expressing confidence that the Flamingos possess the quality to compete strongly against the world’s best teams.
The Flamingos will now represent Nigeria at the 2026 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup, where they will seek to build on their growing reputation as one of Africa’s most exciting youth teams and challenge for global honours.
