Emeruwa Dismisses NFF Job Speculation, Says His Position Has Not Changed

CAF Safety and Security chief Dr Christian Emeruwa has firmly dismissed reports linking him with the position of General Secretary of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), declaring that he has no interest whatsoever in occupying the role.
Emeruwa, who serves as the Head of Safety and Security of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), made his position known in a strongly worded statement aimed at putting an end to what he described as continued speculation surrounding his name.
The CAF official stressed that he has never been interested in becoming NFF General Secretary, adding that his position has remained unchanged since he contested for the presidency of the football federation four years ago.
According to Emeruwa, he presented himself for the NFF presidential election four years ago because of his ambition to provide leadership for Nigerian football.
During that period, he said, he was offered the opportunity to become the federation’s General Secretary but turned down the offer.
He explained that accepting the position was never part of his objective because becoming General Secretary was not the reason he entered the race for the leadership of Nigerian football.
“Four years later, that position has not changed,” Emeruwa stated.
Emeruwa expressed concern that, despite his longstanding position, some individuals continue to circulate what he described as “permutations, postulations and speculative reports” linking him with the NFF General Secretary’s office.
He made it clear that he has neither sought the position nor expressed an interest in it.
“For the avoidance of doubt, I have not sought the position, I have not expressed interest in it, and I have not authorised anyone to canvass, negotiate or speak on my behalf regarding the position,” he said.
Emeruwa also addressed a recent report by journalist Sam Audu, which once again linked his name with the vacant NFF General Secretary position.
He revealed that he personally contacted Audu to clarify his position and informed him that he was awaiting a retraction of the report.
The CAF safety chief subsequently appealed to members of the media, football stakeholders and the general public to stop associating his name with discussions or permutations concerning the NFF General Secretary position.
“I Did Not Want the Position Then. I Do Not Want It Now”
Reaffirming his stance, Emeruwa emphasised that his position today is exactly the same as it was four years ago.
“My position four years ago was clear. My position today remains the same,” he declared.
He concluded his statement with an emphatic message.
