Marcello Anyanwu Hails Rangers’ NPFL Triumph, Applauds League Progress

Renowned Nigerian grassroots football coach, scout, and administrator, Marcello Anyanwu, has showered praises on Rangers International F.C. following the club’s remarkable triumph in the 2025/2026 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) season.
The Flying Antelopes sealed the league title after an impressive 3-1 victory over Ikorodu City F.C. in Lagos over the weekend, sparking celebrations among supporters and football stakeholders across the country.
Speaking with our correspondent from his base in Dubai, the current Technical Assistant and Head Scout of gulfunitedfc.com described Rangers’ title-winning campaign as a product of resilience, discipline, and determination.
According to Anyanwu, the management and coaching crew of the Enugu-based club deserve immense credit for guiding the team through a competitive NPFL season and emerging champions.
The Imo State-born tactician, who previously worked with the Dubai Training Centre of arsenalsoccerschools.com, revealed plans to visit Enugu State during his holiday after the UAE football season to personally celebrate with the Rangers hierarchy and coaching staff.
“I am proud of what Rangers achieved this season. Their consistency, fighting spirit, and determination were outstanding. They truly deserved to win the league,” he stated.
Anyanwu, widely respected in grassroots football development, also reflected on the progress recorded in the NPFL under the leadership of Gbenga Elegbeleye. He commended the league management for ensuring the season ended according to schedule a feat many football followers once considered difficult in Nigerian football.
“It is almost unbelievable that the NPFL season ended at the scheduled time. Kudos to the league management and Hon. Gbenga Elegbeleye for the improvements witnessed in the last two years,” he added.
The highly-rated scout also expressed disappointment over the relegation of Remo Stars F.C., describing it as a painful development for Nigerian football.
It would be recalled that last year, the former NFF presidential aspirant paid a courtesy visit to Remo Stars chairman, Kunle Soname, to congratulate the club after their league success.
However, Remo Stars’ relegation over the weekend means the club has now joined the list of defending NPFL champions to suffer relegation the following season alongside Shooting Stars S.C. and Bayelsa United F.C..
Despite the setback, Anyanwu maintained that Nigerian football is gradually witnessing positive transformation, although more work still needs to be done to elevate the standard of the domestic league.
Marcello Anyanwu remains one of the most respected Nigerian football exports in the Middle East and holds the distinction of being the first African coach/scout to win the UAE Division Three and Division Two leagues consecutively.
