Nigeria’s sprint queen and world record holder, Tobi Amusan, delivered another outstanding performance on Wednesday by winning the women’s 100m hurdles title at the 2026 African Senior Athletics Championships (ASAC) in Accra, Ghana.
The victory earned Team Nigeria its first gold medal of the competition and further cemented Amusan’s status as one of Africa’s greatest track athletes.
Amusan produced a dominant display in the final to secure the gold medal ahead of Zimbabwe’s Ashley Miller, who settled for silver, while fellow Nigerian Adaobi Tabugbo claimed the bronze medal.
The triumph marked Amusan’s third women’s 100m hurdles title at the African Senior Athletics Championships, underlining her continued supremacy on the continent.
For Adaobi Tabugbo, the bronze medal was a memorable achievement as it represented her first individual medal for Nigeria at a major international championship.
Following the event, Team Nigeria’s medal tally at Accra 2026 now stands at one gold medal, one silver medal, and two bronze medals as the championships continue.
