‎Defending champions Newcastle United have been handed a heavyweight test in the semi-finals of the Carabao Cup, where they will face eight-time winners Manchester City in a mouth-watering last-four clash.

‎In the other semi-final, Chelsea will take on either Arsenal or Crystal Palace, with the identity of their opponents set to be confirmed on Tuesday, 23 December.

‎The Gunners’ quarter-final tie against Palace was rescheduled to avoid Oliver Glasner’s side being forced to play three matches in five days due to their involvement in the UEFA Europa Conference League.

‎The Carabao Cup semi-finals will be contested over two legs, with the first legs scheduled for the week commencing 12 January 2026. The return fixtures will take place in the week beginning 2 February.

‎Chelsea, who last lifted the trophy in 2015, will be aiming to go one step further after finishing runners-up on two occasions in recent years, losing to Liverpool in both the 2022 and 2024 finals.

‎Manchester City, meanwhile, enjoyed a remarkable run earlier in the decade, winning the competition four times in a row, with their most recent triumph coming in 2021. However, they have not reached the semi-final stage since that dominant spell.

‎Newcastle United arrive with confidence and history on their side, having defeated Liverpool in March to claim their first domestic trophy in 70 years. Eddie Howe’s side will now look to defend their crown against one of England’s most formidable teams.
