Botafogo pulled off a major upset, defeating European champions Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) 1-0 in their FIFA Club World Cup group stage match.
Igor Jesus scored the only goal of the match, wrong-footing the PSG defense with a clever shot that deflected past Gianluigi Donnarumma.
Despite dominating possession, PSG struggled to create clear chances, with Botafogo’s midfield trio of Marlon Freitas, Gregore, and Allan working tirelessly to close down PSG’s playmakers.
The win puts Botafogo top of the table with consecutive victories while PSG will look to bounce back in their next match.
Botafogo is firmly on course for the last 16, with a final group game against Atletico Madrid to come.
PSG’s hopes of advancing to the knockout stages have been dented, but they still have a chance to qualify.
