Chelsea’s Premier League match against Manchester United at Old Trafford on Wednesday will take place without regular starter Conor Gallagher.

Conor Gallagher, a midfield player for Chelsea, was sent off against Brighton, so he won’t be available for Wednesday’s trip to Manchester United.

In Sunday’s Premier League match, Gallagher was sent off in the first half after bringing down Brighton midfielder Billy Gilmour and thwarting a counterattack. The 23-year-old was previously under arrest for a careless and tardy challenge to Facundo Buonanotte.

He will now be suspended for one game and will miss Wednesday’s trip to Old Trafford. In the second of three league games in the area, United hosts Chelsea.

With the exception of Thiago Silva and goalkeeper Robert Sanchez, Gallagher has played more minutes and started 13 games for Chelsea in the Premier League. Gallagher has been virtually constant for the Blues. With four assists, he is the most inventive player for them.

Cole Palmer is the most logical choice to take Gallagher’s place in the advanced midfield role for Mauricio Pochettino’s team, as the latter was benched for the match against Brighton. Following his long-term knee injury that kept him out of action since the preseason, Christopher Nkunku could return for Chelsea, who defeated the Seagulls 3-2 despite Gallagher’s dismissal.

Despite paying £52 million to move to Stamford Bridge in June, the France international has not yet made an appearance for Chelsea in a league game. Despite not being on the substitutes bench, Pochettino acknowledged earlier this week that he would be a late call for the match against Brighton.

With Mason Mount having participated in training this week, United may be able to welcome him back into the lineup against his former team. The 24-year-old’s manager, Erik ten Hag, was unwilling to assign a potential return date, though.
