AMAPRO, PMI Nigeria Train Sports Stakeholders On Project Management, Leadership Skills

The AMAPRO Africa Development Program in partnership with the Project Management Institute, PMI Nigeria, has emphasized key components required for successful sporting event organization, including defining scope, budget control, team leadership, progress monitoring, risk management, planning, and scheduling.
This was highlighted during a masterclass webinar themed “Project Management and Leadership Skills in Modern Sports Ecosystem”, held on Saturday, June 13, 2026, at the Ilorin Innovation Hub, Ilorin, Kwara State.
The program that was also joined by a number of participants online was designed to equip sports administrators, coaches, club owners, sports journalists, and other stakeholders with world-class project management principles aimed at building effective structures both on and off the field of sports.
The high-impact training featured facilitators from PMI Nigeria, who delivered lectures on project management and leadership skills as they relate to the modern sports industry.
Speaking virtually at the event, Mr. Anthony Dele Daniel of PMI Nigeria stated that successful project delivery begins with clearly defined scope, deliverables, goals, boundaries, timelines, milestones, and deadlines.
He explained that proper allocation and tracking of resources help prevent overspending, while continuous performance monitoring enables early identification of challenges and timely adjustment of plans to ensure successful outcomes.
Mr. Daniel further stressed the importance of effective leadership, noting that motivating, coordinating, and maintaining clear communication with all stakeholders are essential to achieving outstanding results in sports project management.
Another facilitator from PMI Nigeria, Adekemi Oyewusi, also underscored the importance of integrating project management and leadership skills into the modern sports ecosystem.
One of the participants, Technical Adviser of Kwara United, Ashifat Suleiman, commended the initiative, describing it as impactful and knowledge-enhancing.
“Knowledge is a continuous process. This program has helped improve managerial skills. It is a very good program,” he said.
In her remarks, Board Member of the Kwara State Sports Commission, Mrs. Monisola Makanjuola, applauded the initiative and commended the organizers for their efforts in capacity building within the sports sector.
The Brain Behind AMAPRO Africa Development Program, Mr. Shogo Shodunnke, stated that the initiative was aimed at enhancing knowledge and leadership capacity to position Africa’s sports ecosystem competitively among other fast-developing African nations.
He noted that the program would help participants better understand how to benefit from opportunities within the sports ecosystem in their communities
Shodunnke added that professional project management in sports administration would transform narratives and contribute significantly to the economic growth of the sector.
He further emphasized that a well-structured and productive sports ecosystem would deliver impactful results and positively affect lives across communities.
He urged stakeholders to remain committed and actively contribute to achieving the desired outcomes.
The program attracted over 100 hybrid and physical participants, including sports administrators, coaches, club owners, sports journalists, and other stakeholders, who were all presented with certificates of participation at the end of the training.
