The 2026 Lagos State Challenge Cup draw ceremony showcased an exceptional fusion of football, culture, and unity, as stakeholders convened at the Indoor Hall of the National Stadium, Surulere, for an unforgettable event that officially launched Nigeria’s premier grassroots football competition.
Central to the vibrant ceremony was the Chairman of the Lagos State Football Association, Hajji Liameed Gafar, whose leadership continues to infuse renewed vigor and direction into Lagos football. Under his guidance, this year’s Lagos FA Cup is poised to be one of the most significant editions in recent memory.
A key highlight of the occasion was the presentation of a stunning Eyo masquerade-inspired trophy, generously donated by 54Footballx, and officially unveiled by esteemed royal figures — HRM Oba Ibrahim Olasunkanmi Lawal-Bello (Isheri-Olofin Kingdom) and Oba Abdul Moruf Oyekunle Oluwa (Olu-Iwa of Apapa) — eliciting excitement and admiration from the football community.
The culturally significant trophy embodies the rich heritage of Lagos, enhancing the identity and prestige of the competition, which is widely acknowledged as the largest football tournament in the state.
During the event, LSFA Chairman Hajji Liameed Gafar conveyed his satisfaction with the level of organization and stakeholder involvement, while reiterating the association’s dedication to excellence.
“This competition represents more than football; it reflects our culture, our unity, and our vision for the future of the game in Lagos. We are committed to delivering a well-organised tournament that will continue to discover talents and inspire the next generation,” Gafar said.
The event drew a notable audience, featuring former internationals led by Engr. Waidi Akanni, club owners, football administrators, referees, media professionals, and representatives from the Lagos State Government — all united in their dedication to the advancement of football.
In a collective expression of gratitude, the LSFA, together with tournament sponsor Dr. Sheriff Tajudeen, Founder/CEO of Cloud Sports, conveyed sincere thanks to all stakeholders for their attendance and steadfast support.
Special acknowledgment was extended to the Royal Fathers for their honor in unveiling the trophy, as well as to the organizers of the Media Officers Training seminar, whose sessions have prepared club media personnel in advance of the tournament.
The LSFA also recognized the contributions of its Congress members, the Lagos State Referees Association, and its elders-emeritus for their ongoing guidance and commitment to the development of the sport.

With 77 teams confirmed to participate, along with additional incentives such as match balls, increased prize money, and global live streaming facilitated by Cloud Sports, excitement is mounting as kickoff approaches.
