Chelsea FC endured a crushing European exit as they fell 3–0 at home to Paris Saint-Germain, completing an emphatic 8–2 aggregate defeat in their UEFA Champions League last-16 tie.

The damage was done early at Stamford Bridge, with Khvicha Kvaratskhelia opening the scoring just six minutes into the match. The Georgian capitalised on hesitant defending to fire a low effort past goal, setting the tone for a difficult night for the hosts.

PSG quickly doubled their advantage in the 14th minute through Bradley Barcola, who produced a superb first touch before volleying brilliantly into the top corner following a Chelsea turnover in midfield. The early double strike effectively ended the contest, leaving the Blues with an insurmountable task.

Despite attempts to respond, Chelsea struggled to convert their chances. Cole Palmer, Enzo Fernández, Pedro Neto and Trevoh Chalobah all tested PSG’s defence, but lacked the cutting edge needed to change the momentum.

The visitors remained dangerous on the counter-attack, repeatedly threatening through Kvaratskhelia and Barcola, exposing Chelsea’s defensive vulnerabilities. Frustration grew among the home supporters, with boos ringing out at half-time and chants directed both in support of former owner Roman Abramovich and against the current ownership.

Head coach Liam Rosenior attempted to spark a response after the break, introducing Josh Acheampong for Mamadou Sarr. However, Chelsea’s efforts continued to fall short, with João Pedro and Palmer going close without reward.

As the match wore on, Rosenior opted to rest key players, withdrawing Palmer, Fernández and João Pedro—effectively conceding the tie. Substitute Liam Delap came close to pulling one back, but was denied from close range.

PSG added further gloss to the scoreline late on when 19-year-old Senny Mayulu curled in a fine strike from the edge of the area, sealing a comprehensive victory on the night and a staggering aggregate triumph.

To compound Chelsea’s misery, Chalobah was stretchered off late in the game with what was later confirmed as a high ankle sprain, leaving the hosts to finish with 10 men. The injury adds to growing defensive concerns, with captain Reece James already sidelined.

Speaking after the match, Rosenior acknowledged the disappointment of supporters and the magnitude of the defeat, stressing the need for improvement while expressing his determination to deliver better performances in the future.

The result sees PSG advance to the quarter-finals, where they will face the winner of the tie between Liverpool FC and Galatasaray, with the Turkish side holding a narrow first-leg advantage.
