Hosts Morocco began their 2025 Africa Cup of Nations campaign in impressive fashion, securing a 2–0 victory over Comoros on Sunday at the Rabat Stadium.
The Atlas Lions started brightly and were handed an early opportunity to take the lead in the 10th minute after being awarded a penalty. However, Soufiane Rahimi’s spot kick was superbly saved by Comoros goalkeeper Yannick Pandor, whose quick reflexes kept the scoreline level.
Despite Morocco’s dominance, the breakthrough only arrived after the interval. In the 55th minute, Brahim Diaz calmly finished off a swift attacking move inside the penalty area, sparking celebrations among the passionate home fans.
Morocco doubled their advantage in spectacular style in the 75th minute.
Substitute Ayoub El Kaabi announced his arrival with a moment of brilliance, executing an acrobatic left-footed bicycle kick that left the goalkeeper helpless and sealed the win for the hosts.
The victory hands Morocco maximum points from their opening fixture and sets a positive tone for their AFCON 2025 campaign.
The Atlas Lions will now turn their attention to their next group match against Mali, scheduled for Friday, December 26.
