‎Super Eagles Head Coach Eric Sékou Chelle has unveiled a 28-man squad for the 35th Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) taking place in Morocco in just ten days’ time, with a mix of established stars, returning players, and exciting new faces making the list.

‎Chelle named key players including goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali, defenders Calvin Bassey, Semi Ajayi, and Zaidu Sanusi, midfield anchors Wilfred Ndidi and Frank Onyeka, as well as attacking duo Victor Osimhen and Ademola Lookman among the core of Nigeria’s team heading to Morocco.

‎The Franco-Malian tactician also included defenders Chidozie Awaziem and Bright Osayi-Samuel, midfielders Fisayo Dele-Bashiru and Raphael Onyedika, and forwards Samuel Chukwueze and Moses Simon, cementing a solid blend of experience and pace in the squad.

‎There is a notable return for Cyprus-based goalkeeper Francis Uzoho, defender Igoh Ogbu, and striker Paul Onuachu, all of whom rejoin the Super Eagles fold for the continental campaign.

‎Chelle also handed first-time AFCON invitations to several newcomers, including England-based defender Ryan Alebiosu, midfielders Usman Muhammed (Israel), Ebenezer Akinsanmiro (Italy), Tochukwu Nnadi (Belgium), and Croatian-based forward Salim Fago Lawal, reflecting the coach’s willingness to integrate emerging talents.

‎As part of their preparations, the Super Eagles will take on the Pharaohs of Egypt in a high-profile friendly at the Cairo International Stadium on Tuesday, 16th December. The team will thereafter depart Cairo for Fès—their base for Group C—on 18th December via a chartered flight.

‎Nigeria, three-time African champions, will begin their AFCON campaign against the Taifa Stars of Tanzania on 23rd December, followed by a clash with Tunisia’s Carthage Eagles on 27th December and a final group tie against Uganda’s Cranes on 30th December.
