Nigeria’s U-20 women’s national team, the Falconets, have advanced to the final round of the 2026 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup qualifiers after dismantling Rwanda 4-0 in the second leg of their second-round clash.
The match, played at the Lekan Salami Stadium in Ibadan on Saturday, September 27, saw the Falconets complete a 5-0 aggregate triumph, having won the first leg away from home.
Precious, Fatimah, Janet, and Afolabi were all on target for Nigeria, each finding the back of the net in a commanding display that highlighted the team’s superiority. From the first whistle, the Falconets controlled possession, dictated the tempo, and punished Rwanda with clinical finishing.
With this emphatic victory, Nigeria set up a final-round clash against either Senegal or Algeria. The Senegalese hold a 2-0 advantage from the first leg of their tie, with the second leg scheduled for later today.
The decisive final qualifying round is billed for February 2026, where four African teams will ultimately secure tickets to the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup in Poland.
For Nigeria, a perennial powerhouse at youth level, qualification would extend their rich history of consistent appearances on the global stage.
