‎ASEC Mimosas have etched their name in history after winning the 5th edition of the CAF Women’s Champions League (CAFWCL) WAFU-B qualifying tournament.

‎The Ivorian champions sealed the regional crown on Friday, September 5, in Yamoussoukro, defeating Nigeria’s Bayelsa Queens in a dramatic penalty shootout.

‎The highly anticipated final lived up to its billing, with both teams showcasing intensity, resilience, and quality football. Regulation time ended in a 1-1 draw, forcing the game into extra time. With neither side able to find a winner, the contest was ultimately decided from the spot.

‎In a tense shootout, ASEC Mimosas held their nerve to triumph 8-7, sparking wild celebrations from their supporters as they not only claimed the trophy but also secured a coveted spot in the final phase of the CAF Women’s Champions League.

‎Earlier in the day, Ghana’s Police Ladies and Burkina Faso’s USFA battled for third place. That game, too, was decided by penalties after a stalemate in regular time. USFA emerged victorious 5-4, clinching the bronze medal.

‎This historic victory makes ASEC Mimosas the first Ivorian club to win the WAFU-B qualifiers, a milestone achievement that underlines the growing strength of women’s football in Côte d’Ivoire.

‎ The team will now shift its focus to the continental stage, where they will represent the WAFU-B zone in the upcoming CAF Women’s Champions League.
