Co-Hosts Tanzania Defeat Burkina Faso In CHAN 2024 Opener

The 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN) co-hosts, Tanzania, got off to a flying start with a 2-0 victory over Burkina Faso in Group B.
The match, played at the Benjamin Mkapa Stadium in Dar es Salaam, saw the Taifa Stars dominate proceedings from start to finish.
Tanzania controlled the game, with Burkina Faso’s goalkeeper, Ladji Sanou, making several crucial saves to keep his team in the match.
Despite Sanou’s efforts, Tanzania’s Abdul Hamisi Suleiman scored the opening goal from a penalty spot in stoppage time of the first half.
Burkina Faso showed some improvement in the second half, but it was Tanzania who ultimately broke through.
Sanou’s mistake in the second half allowed Tanzania to score their second goal, as Mohamed Hussein headed the ball into an empty net.
Abdul Hamisi Suleiman’s penalty goal in stoppage time of the first half gave Tanzania the lead.
Ladji Sanou’s outstanding save with his foot denied Suleiman from scoring a second goal in the 61st minute.
Mohamed Hussein’s header into an empty net sealed the win for Tanzania.
Tanzania will face Mauritania on Wednesday at 20:00 East African Time (17:00 GMT), while Burkina Faso will take on the Central African Republic earlier in the day at the same venue.
