The Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) is gearing up for another thrilling campaign as clubs nationwide resume pre-season activities ahead of the 2025/26 season.
The league fixtures have been officially released, with defending champions Remo Stars set to host Rivers United in a mouth-watering Matchweek One clash on August 22.
Remo Stars were handsomely rewarded after their historic title triumph last season, becoming the first Southwest club to win the league in 25 years.
They amassed 71 points from 38 games, winning 22, drawing 5, and losing 11. The Ikenne-based outfit will be looking to defend their title against strong challengers.
Newly promoted side Kun Khalifat FC has been handed a baptism of fire with a daunting away trip to Rangers International, while Barau FC makes their top-flight debut at home against record winners Enyimba International.
The league promises to be even more competitive this term, with a record-breaking ₦200 million awarded to the eventual champions. This cash prize aims to elevate standards and fuel fierce competition among the teams.
Last season delivered plenty of drama, with 380 matches producing 286 wins, 92 draws, and 552 home goals. Over 1,180 cards were issued, and fans witnessed 16 missed penalties.
The race for the golden boot was headlined by Anas Yusuf, who netted 18 goals, including back-to-back hat-tricks, a feat rarely seen in NPFL history.
With four new teams – Kun Khalifat, Warri Wolves, Wikki Tourists, and Barau FC – joining the fray, fans can expect an unpredictable and thrilling campaign.
The 2025/26 NPFL season begins on Friday, August 22, across venues nationwide.
