Super Falcons forward Omorinsola Babajide has dedicated her goal against Tunisia to the late Liverpool striker Diogo Jota.
Babajide scored the second goal in Nigeria’s 3-0 win over Tunisia in their WAFCON 2024 Group B opener.
The striker’s goal was her first for the Super Falcons in five appearances. After the game, Babajide explained the significance of her celebration, saying it was a heartfelt tribute to Jota and his brother.
“It was for Diogo Jota and his brother as well. That was like one of his biggest celebrations at the club, especially. We call it the signature celebration really,” she said.
Babajide’s impressive performance may not guarantee her a starting spot in the team’s next match against Botswana.
Esther Okoronkwo, who replaced her after the break, was named Woman of the Match after providing an assist for Chiwendu Ihezuo’s goal.
