Former Super Eagles coach Augustine Eguavoen has paid tribute to the late Peter Rufai, suggesting that the former goalkeeper should be immortalised.
Rufai, an icon of Nigerian football, passed away on Thursday after a prolonged illness.
Eguavoen, who was once a teammate of Rufai, described him as an icon and suggested that a stadium or statue should be erected in his honor.
“He should be immortalised… A stadium or statue should be erected somewhere, it won’t be too much,” Eguavoen said on Channels Television.
Eguavoen also expressed sadness over Rufai’s passing, noting that if he had spoken out about his illness and needed financial assistance, Nigerians would have rallied around him.
“If he spoke out and needed N100 million, I don’t think Nigerians would be silent. One or two persons would raise that money. It’s quite unfortunate what happened has happened.”
