Super Falcons Eye Record $1 Million Prize As WAFCON 2024 Kicks Off In Morocco

The 2024 TotalEnergies CAF Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) is set to kick off in Morocco, with the Super Falcons of Nigeria competing for a record-breaking $1 million prize.

 

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has doubled the winner’s reward from $500,000 to $1 million, with the total prize pool now standing at $3.475 million.

 

The prize money has been increased across all stages of the competition, with the following amounts up for grabs ¹:

 

– Winner: $1,000,000 (approximately ₦1.5 billion)

– Runner-up: $500,000

– Third place:$350,000

– Fourth place:$300,000

– Quarter-finalists:$200,000 each

– Third in group:$150,000

– Fourth in group:$125,000 each

 

The Super Falcons, drawn in Group B alongside Tunisia, Algeria, and Botswana, will battle Tunisia in their group opener tomorrow at 5 pm Nigerian time.

 

A strong performance in the tournament could earn them a significant payday, with even a semi-final finish potentially worth $300,000 or more.

 

CAF President Dr. Patrice Motsepe said the increased prize money is aimed at supporting players, coaches, and teams, and should contribute to the salaries of women football players, coaches, and employees.

 

With growing support, improved performance, and a strong squad, the Super Falcons have every motivation to go all the way and lift their tenth WAFCON title
