Edo State Football Trailblazers Set to Receive Prestigious Awards on April 4th

The Edo State Football Association is set to honour four distinguished individuals for their outstanding contributions to the development of sports in the state.

On April 4th 2025, the prestigious Traiblazers Award will be presented to Hon. Enabulele Desmond Amadin, Dr. Terry Eguaojie, Hon. Engr. Esosa Iyawe and Mr. Michael Ogbegbor in recognition of their efforts and commitment to football in Edo State.

Hon. Enabulele Desmond Amadin, the Executive Chairman of the Edo State Sports Commission, has played a very important role in maintaining the stability and success of Edo Queens. His leadership has ensured the team’s impressive standing on the league table. The team sits first in Group A of the Nigeria Women Football League Premiership log. He has also overseen the transformation of Bendel Insurance from a club once battling relegation to a side now aiming for continental football, currently sitting 7th on the Nigeria Premier Football League log. His support for the FA and grassroots football has made a greaat impact on the development of football in Edo State.

Dr. Terry Eguaoje, a highly respected figure in football coaching development, has been instrumental in shaping the future of coaching in Nigeria and beyond. As the Technical Director of Coaching Education for PA West Soccer in the U.S., he oversees training programs to equip coaches with essential skills. He is the founder and president of the Football Coaches Association of African Nations (FCAAN) and has worked with the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) as a consultant. His contributions include designing coaching curricula aligned with international standards and serving on the coaching staff of Nigeria’s national teams, including the Super Falcons. Committed to advancing football coaching, Dr. Eguaoje continues to develop talent and improve coaching standards globally. His contribution to human capacity development in football development cannot go unnoticed.

Hon. Engr. Esosa Iyawe, representing Oredo Federal Constituency, has shown commitment to youth development through football. His efforts have seen at least six players secure opportunities to travel abroad and further their careers. Moreover, his Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives include the donation of a bus to the Edo State Football Association, improving transportation logistics for the association.

Mr. Michael Ogbegbor aka( Obantan) a visionary and a strong supporter of grassroots football for the future, he has consistently sponsored the Prestigious Oba of Benin Cup for the past two years. The tournament has grown in competitiveness and has nurtured young football talents within the state.

The Trailblazer Award ceremony will celebrate these exceptional individuals for their enduring commitment to the growth and success of football in Edo State.
