Super Eagles captain Ahmed Musa expressed deep concern about the potential consequences of Nigeria failing to qualify for the 2026 World Cup, calling it a “total disaster” for Nigerian football.
He emphasized that missing the tournament would not only squander a generation of talented players but also erode the confidence of future generations.
Despite the team’s current fifth-place standing in Group C, alongside South Africa, Rwanda, Zimbabwe, and Benin, Musa remains optimistic, stating,
“The Super Eagles are in a very difficult situation right now, but we believe in ourselves that we can still scale through.”
He pinpointed the upcoming match against Rwanda as a critical turning point, stating, “The important game is Rwanda.
If we can get the three points from that match, it’s going to be a turning point for us.”
Musa emphasized that the task of qualifying for the World Cup goes beyond the Super Eagles themselves.
He called for a united front, urging every Nigerian to rally behind the team and provide their support
“It is not just a job for the Super Eagles alone. Every Nigerian must be involved because we need their support.”
