Niger Tornadoes’ technical adviser, Majin Mohammed, lamented his team’s inability to capitalize on scoring opportunities in the first half, leading to a painful 1-0 defeat to Enyimba.
Joseph Atule’s second-half strike sealed the victory for the visitors, handing Enyimba a valuable three points. The loss was a disappointing start in Lafia, the adopted home for the Ikon Allah Boys, riding high after the midweek win against Lobi Stars in Bauchi.
The Tornadoes’ technical crew made a surprise starting lineup change, opting for Aliyu Junior over Rickson Mendos and Olawale Emmanuel Ayodele. However, the gamble failed to pay off, as Aliyu struggled to find his footing in the high-stakes match. Rickson Mendos replaced Aliyu Junior just before halftime.
Enyimba took the lead through Atule’s clinical finish, capping off a swift counter-attacking move. Despite efforts to equalize, the Ikon Allah Boys were unable to breach the Enyimba defense, ultimately succumbing to defeat.
In the post-match interview, Majin Mohammed pinpointed wastefulness in front of goal as the primary cause of the defeat. “We had our chances in the first half, but we failed to take any. Enyimba had theirs, and they scored.”
Looking ahead to their next match, Majin Mohammed vowed to bounce back against Rivers United. “They came to Minna and took three points; we’ll go to their ground and aim for the same.”
