World Record Holder Faces Shericka Jackson in Kingston
World 100m hurdles record holder and defending champion, Tobi Amusan, is set to make a return to action this Saturday at the Queen’s/Grace Jackson Meet in Kingston, Jamaica, as she resumes action in the new 2025 season. Taking to the start shortly in the 60m, Amusan is set for her first competitive appearance since the Paris 2024 Olympics, where she will face Jamaica’s sprinting threat Shericka Jackson in what is quite the tantalising contest.
Just over in September 2024, the 27-year-old Nigeria has been training under the camp of the world-famous Jamaican coach, Glen Mills. She is at least under the wing of sprint guru Amusan, and hoping to find her form again and set down a marker for her season.
“This race is key on my journey going into the 2025 goals,” Amusan said in a statement before the meet. “I’m looking forward to testing myself and competing against some of the best in here in Jamaica, as well.”
Despite all the hype surrounding the match up, the Queen’s/Grace Jackson Meet is not World Athletics-certified to help with qualifying for the World Championships set for Tokyo Sept. 13-21 in 2025.
Fans and analysts alike are keeping a close eye on her return to competition, with Amusan looking to bounce back after a struggle filled 2024 season. Her return — with a new training environment as well as a new hunger — will be a preliminary glimpse at what to expect this season from the reigning hurdles queen during her time in Kingston.
All is set in Kingston this weekend for Amusan to raise her game and stake her claim for Tokyo 2025.
