Shooting Stars Begin 2026/2027 NPFL Campaign with 2-1 Win Over Inter Lagos

Shooting Stars began their 2026/27 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) campaign on a winning note after edging Inter Lagos 2-1 in an entertaining season opener.
The hosts made a bright start at the stadium, immediately putting the Lagos-based visitors under pressure as they searched for an early breakthrough.
Their attacking intent was rewarded in the 14th minute when Lucky Emmanuel found the back of the net to put Shooting Stars ahead.
Inter Lagos responded positively and soon restored parity.
Adigun Damilare levelled the score for the visitors after connecting with a beautifully delivered cross, giving Inter Lagos renewed confidence.
With both teams pushing for another goal before the interval, Shooting Stars regained the lead in first-half stoppage time.
Sodiq Ibrahim stepped up from the penalty spot and calmly converted to send the home side into the break with a 2-1 advantage.
The second half was a much more evenly contested affair, with both sides creating opportunities but neither able to find another goal.
Inter Lagos continued to search for an equaliser, while Shooting Stars looked to protect their narrow advantage and potentially extend their lead on the counter.
Shooting Stars were handed a golden opportunity to put the game beyond doubt in stoppage time after being awarded another penalty, but Mustapha Adams failed to convert from the spot.
His miss gave Inter Lagos hope of a late comeback, but Shooting Stars held firm until the final whistle to secure all three points.
The victory gives Shooting Stars the perfect start to the new NPFL campaign, while Inter Lagos will look to bounce back in their next league outing.
