La Liga: Chidera Ejuke Scores As Sevilla Cruise Past 10-Man Athletic Bilbao
By Sedara Philip
Nigeria international Chidera Ejuke was on target as Sevilla secured an impressive 3-1 victory over Athletic Bilbao in their LaLiga encounter on Saturday.
Athletic Bilbao’s task became more difficult early in the contest when Yuri Berchiche was shown a red card in the 11th minute, leaving the hosts with 10 men for the remainder of the match.
Sevilla quickly took advantage of the numerical superiority, with Oso opening the scoring in the 15th minute to give the visitors an early lead.
Ejuke was introduced at the start of the second half, replacing Miguel Ángel Sierra, and the Nigerian winger made an immediate impact.
The Super Eagles star doubled Sevilla’s advantage in the 50th minute, finishing clinically after being set up by Isaac Romero.
Romero then got his name on the scoresheet seven minutes later, adding Sevilla’s third goal to put the visitors firmly in control.
Athletic Bilbao managed to reduce the deficit in the 70th minute when Aitor Paredes found the back of the net, but the hosts could not complete a comeback.
Sevilla held on comfortably to secure all three points and continue their positive start to the campaign.
The result gives Ejuke another confidence boost as he continues to establish himself as an important attacking option for the Spanish club.
Sevilla will now prepare to host Atlético Madrid in their next LaLiga fixture, while Athletic Bilbao face another difficult test away to Barcelona.
