Arsenal made a commanding start to their Premier League title defence on Friday night, cruising to a comfortable 3-0 victory over Coventry City at the Emirates Stadium.

The Gunners, who lifted their first league title in 22 years last season, wasted little time showing their intent as they comfortably overcame the newly promoted Championship winners.

Kai Havertz opened the scoring to give Arsenal the perfect start, producing a composed finish into the bottom corner after finding space inside the penalty area.

Mikel Arteta’s side continued to dominate and doubled their advantage before halftime.

Bukayo Saka capitalised on a defensive error, calmly rolling the ball into the net to send Arsenal into the break with a commanding 2-0 lead.

The Gunners maintained their intensity after the restart and added a third goal early in the second half.

Captain Martin Ødegaard completed the scoring with a composed finish, putting the result beyond Coventry and sparking celebrations among the home supporters.

Arsenal comfortably controlled the remainder of the contest to secure all three points and begin their title defence with an emphatic statement.

The Gunners will now turn their attention to their next Premier League assignment, an away trip to Aston Villa on Monday, as Arteta’s men look to maintain their perfect start.
