Viktor Gyokeres, the Swedish striker who recently completed his £55 million transfer from Sporting Lisbon, is set to potentially make his Arsenal debut in the upcoming pre-season friendly against Tottenham in Hong Kong.
The match is scheduled to take place on Thursday, and Gyokeres’ participation will depend on his fitness and medical clearance.
Gyokeres was presented to Arsenal fans ahead of the team’s 3-2 win over Newcastle in Singapore on Sunday. However, he has had limited training time with his new club, and Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has cautioned that the decision to play him will depend on his condition and medical clearance.
”We’re going to assess tonight how he is,” Arteta said in a pre-match press conference. “If the medical staff are happy as well with his condition to participate in tomorrow’s match, it’s a possibility. We’re going to discuss that tonight.”
Gyokeres has been in impressive form throughout his career, scoring 68 goals in 66 league appearances for Sporting Lisbon and helping the club win back-to-back Portuguese titles.
He has also scored 97 goals in 102 appearances in all competitions during his two seasons in Lisbon, including a Champions League hat-trick against Manchester City last term.
