Nigerian goalkeeper Maduka Okoye has been handed a two-month ban for his alleged involvement in illegal betting.
The 25-year-old Udinese goalkeeper was investigated by the authorities after a suspicious surge in betting activity surrounding a yellow card he received in a Serie A match against Lazio on March 11, 2024.
According to Football Italia, Okoye narrowly avoided a four-year suspension, which could have ended his career.
The goalkeeper was deferred to the disciplinary commission in June 2025, along with three friends who were also under investigation.
As a result of the ban, Okoye will miss Udinese’s Coppa Italia game against Carrarese on August 18 and six Serie A matches. He will be available for selection again on October 19.
