NPFL:Rangers Announce Chidiebere Nwobodo As New Captain

Eight-time Nigeria league champions, Rangers International FC, have announced the appointment of Chidiebere Nwobodo as their new club captain.

The former assistant skipper returns to the Enugu-based side after a brief spell in the Rwandan top flight and has been immediately handed the armband.

The significant announcement was made today by the club’s General Manager and CEO, Barrister Amobi Ezeaku, following the team’s training session at ‘The Cathedral,’ Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium, Enugu.

Nwobodo will be ably supported by a strong leadership group. Austin Opara, a formidable presence in defense who has consistently distinguished himself since joining from Plateau United, has been named the assistant captain.

Additionally, versatile utility player Evans Ogbonda will take on the role of the team’s player coordinator.

This leadership restructuring comes as Coach Fidelis Ilechukwu intensifies efforts to forge a formidable squad.

The Flying Antelopes are setting their sights high, aiming to reclaim the Nigeria league trophy they last won in the 2023/2024 season.

Beyond the league, Rangers also have their eyes firmly fixed on dethroning current President Federation Cup champions, Kwara United, indicating a strong desire for a double triumph in the upcoming season.
