The Cameroon Football Federation (FECAFOOT), led by President Samuel Eto’o, has imposed a 5-year ban on Geremi Njitap, a legendary footballer and current President of the Cameroon Professional Footballers Syndicate (SYNAFOC). Njitap has also been fined FCFA 10m.
The ban follows an incident during the Cameroon vs. Gambia match in the 2023 African Cup, where Njitap was denied access to celebrate with the team in the dressing room after their victory. SYNAFOC claimed Eto’o instructed security to deny Njitap access.
The relationship between Eto’o and Njitap has deteriorated, particularly after Njitap announced plans to challenge Eto’o in the FECAFOOT elections scheduled for December 2025.
