FCWC:Boca Juniors Fail To Capitalize On 2-0 Lead As Benfica Fights Back

In a dramatic 2025 Club World Cup encounter at the Hard Rock Stadium, Benfica came from two goals down to hold Boca Juniors to a 2-2 draw.

 

The match was marked by intense action, red cards, and late drama.

 

Merentiel opened the scoring for Boca Juniors in the 21st minute, followed by Battaglian’s brilliant low drive shot to double the lead.

 

Boca Juniors’ Andrea Herrera was red-carded in the 46th minute, and Benfica capitalized on the man advantage with Angel Di Maria converting a penalty.

 

However, Benfica’s Belotti was also red-carded in the 70th minute for a high boot on a Boca Juniors defender.

 

Despite being reduced to 10 men, Benfica leveled the score with a fine header from captain Otamendi in the 84th minute.
