Racing Genk forward Tolu Arokodare produced another eye-catching performance, netting a goal and creating one as his side pip Westerlo 2-1 on Saturday evening. The Nigerian attacker was at his best during the away success at Het Kuipje in round 23 of the Belgium Pro League as he keeps increasing his growing stock.
Arokodare needed no time to stamp his authority as he set up Zakaria El Ouahdi for the opening goal of the game in the 18th minute with his vision and precision, presenting him with a chance to finish all too easily to give Genk an early lead, before Arokodare himself doubled the advantage twelve minutes later with a brilliance.
Picking up the ball near the edge of the box, he showed off his dribbling skills to get past one defender before unleashing a thunderous strike into the top corner, with the keeper left without a chance.
The contribution of the 22-year-old proved vital as Westerlo pulled one back late in the game through Isa Sakamoto in the 87th minute, but Genk’s defense held firm to secure all three points and keep the momentum going at the top of the table.
That was Arokodare’s second in his last five and takes him to a total of 16 goals and five assists in all competitions this season, including 14 in the league.
With Arokodare in such form, Genk now sits four points clear of second-placed Club Brugge. And as the Super Eagles hopeful continues to fire on all cylinders, consistent displays are likely to attract further attention from Nigeria’s national team selectors.
The Super Eagles hopeful’s consistent displays have seen Genk firmly remain in the title race with him leading the charge.
