Ekiti United Kick Against Unfounded Online News Alleging Non-payment of Players Salaries, Call For Journalists’ Verification Before Publication Of Club News As Team Focus On Crucial Last League Match

The Management of Ekiti United Football Club has frowned at the arbitrary publication of unsubstantiated news by some online news platforms.
In an official statement issued by the Club and signed by the Secretary, Ayodeji Olowolafe on Wednesday, the Management described as untrue the report alleging that players of the club were owed several months salaries.
It noted that it behoves on pressmen being members of the fourth estate of the realm to always cross-check and verify any information, rumour or hearsay concerning the club through either the Club Management or the Media Unit before publishing or circulating news .
Ekiti United Management wondered the source and veracity of the false news in which the club was said to be owing players several months salaries when the club has been prompt in the payment of salaries on a monthly basis up till April.
The club through it’s Media Department stated that one month pending salary for 25 retained players due to logistics reasons when some players were to be dropped in February 2024 ought not to have been tagged by professional mediamen as several months outstanding salaries.
While calling for support and prayers of every stakeholder including journalists, supporters and fans to compliment the efforts of the governor Biodun Oyebanji’s administration at repositioning Sports in Ekiti State, the club Management assured that the club will continue to prioritize the welfare of players and staff through regular payment of salaries and allowances as and when due as the club remains one of the very few nationwide that has not been owing players for several years till date.
The statement added that players and technical crew remained focus on how to ensure the NNL slot of the team is retained beyond the outgoing season.
The club noted that the spirit of the players are high and they are determined to be part of the squad that will ensure safety of the team in the country’s second tier football league having enjoyed necessary financial impetus and boosts in term of salaries, allowances and welfare from the State government.
Ekiti United will on Saturday be involved in a make or mar game in the last league match of the 2023/24 Nigeria National Football League against Abia Comets in Abia as the team goes all out to grab points to remain in the league next season.
