2024 President FA Cup: Sunshine Queens Defeat Green Foot, Progress To Round Of 16

Sunshine Queens have defeated Green Foot FC 3-1 to progress to the round of 16 in the 2024 President Federation Cup.

 

 

Ajibade Taiwo wasted no time in putting her side ahead in the 9th minute from Bolaji Olamide’s assist.

 

 

Despite Sunshine Queens’ domination of the encounter decided at the Samuel Ogbemudia stadium, Benin City, they were unable to double their lead before the center referee signalled end of the first stanza.

 

The hostility resumed in the second half with Sunshine Queens bossing the game from defense to the opposing final third.

 

The Akure Landladies continued pressing paid off in the 50th minute as Bolaji Olamide was fouled inside the box for a penalty.

 

 

Sunshine Queens Captain, Suliyat Ajibade stepped in to convert from the spot and made it 2-0 for Sunshine Queens in the 50th minute.

 

Green Foot FC were brought back into the match, having pulled one back in the 66th minutes.

 

The 2015 Women Federation Cup Champions reacted swiftly with beautiful team work, only to rue the resulted goal chance.

 

Sunshine Queens shrugged off the missed chance, taking the game to their opponent, with Bolaji Olamide sealed the victory for Sunshine Queens with her 92nd minute goal from Mistura Olamilekan final pass.

 

Sunshine Queens Head coach, Rafiu Oseni, in a chat with the team’s media, thanked God for the victory in his first competitive game with his new team.

 

 

He commended his players for playing according to game plans, assuring that the team’s performance will improve as they progress in the competition.”

 

 

He said: “I will continue to take my time to study the team, Sunshine Queens is a very good team, as soon as we get back to our base, we will work on some areas we are lacking, there is going to be better improvement before our next game.

 

 

“I must confess, our opponent gave a good account of themselves, they are not pushover at all, we edged them through experience, hardwork and grace of God”, he stated.
