Maximum points eluded unlucky Sunshine Queens at home as they narrowly lost 0-1 to Rivers Angels in matchday 12 of the Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) played at the Ondo State Sports Complex, Akure.

The home side was in control of the game from the blast of the center referee’s whistle, with many goal scoring chances rued.

Sunshine Queens could have taken the lead in the 39 minutes but the goal was ruled out for offside by the match official.

Four minutes after, Rivers Angels scored the lone goal of the entertaining encounter, despite the home side’s protest for an offside call, the center referee pointed to the center for the restart of the game.

Sunshine Queens’ Aluba Ogba was well positioned to save her side from what could have been the second goal for the visitors before the end of the first stanza.

Sunshine Queens started the second half playing in the final third with Precious Edewor’s 20-yard strike tipped over the bar by the visitor’s goalkeeper.

The home fans’ jubilation for an equalizer was cut short in the 58th minute when Rivers Angels defender cleared from inside her net and the Center referee signaled for the continuation of the game.

Moments later, Bolaji Olamide, was brought down inside the box 18, again with the Center referee looking the other way.

Efforts by Sunshine Queens to get a leveler were not successful as the visitors kept the maximum points in the kitty.
