A Ghanaian fan smelling the rods after he was arrested on Sunday for assaulting Black Stars coach Chris Hughton following the team’s shock defeat by Cape Verde.

According to ghanasoccernet, the unidentified man attacked Hughton at the team’s hotel.

The assault prompted the swift intervention of Ghanaian diplomats present at the scene, who managed to rescue Hughton before the assailant was handed over to the police.

The motive behind the attack remains unknown, but it may be connected to the Black Stars’ loss to Cape Verde.

Ghana are walking a tightrope at the tournament as they face a crucial match against Egypt on Thursday as defeat will end their campaign.

On their part the Egyptians had to rely on a 97th minute penalty from Mohamed Salah to rescue a point against Mozambique.

On paper many had predicted that the Black Stars will have a jolly ride in their match against Cape verde, but Cape Verdians also known as the Blue Sharks soaked all the pressures and refused to allow the stars glitter.

They did not only shoot into the lead forcing the Black Stars to come from behind but also delivered the winner when it matter most forcing the Black stars to mount pressure till the last whistle with no chance of turning the table.

The Black Stars versus Pharaohs match like that between the Super Eagles and Ivory Coast are some of the star matches some say will be survival of the fittest
