In a thrilling League Cup semi-final clash at Anfield, Liverpool orchestrated a comeback to secure a 2-1 victory over Fulham. Curtis Jones and substitute Cody Gakpo were the heroes for the Reds as they netted crucial goals within three minutes of each other.

Fulham took an early lead in the 19th minute when Willian capitalized on a poor clearance by Virgil van Dijk. The Brazilian expertly slotted the ball home from the edge of the six-yard box, threading it between the legs of Liverpool’s goalkeeper, Caoimhin Kelleher.

Despite facing a well-organized Fulham defense, Liverpool, the record nine-time League Cup winners, showcased their dominance in possession. The breakthrough for the Reds came in the 68th minute when Curtis Jones unleashed a shot from 25 meters out. The ball took a significant deflection off Tosin Adarabioyo, finding the back of the net and leveling the score.

Liverpool’s momentum continued, and in the 71st minute, substitute Cody Gakpo secured the lead by tapping in Darwin Nunez’s cross at the near post.

The victory was particularly impressive considering Liverpool’s absence of key players. Mohamed Salah, the joint top scorer in the Premier League, is representing Egypt at the Africa Cup of Nations, while Trent Alexander-Arnold missed the game due to a knee injury sustained in the FA Cup third-round win against Arsenal.

For Fulham FC, Nigerian duo, Alex Iwobi and Calvin Bassey were absent as they flew with the Nigeria national team to Cote d’Ivoire for the AFCON.

The win puts Liverpool in a favorable position heading into the second leg of the semi-final, aiming to secure a spot in the League Cup final.
